Why did you have to go and make things so complicated?....

When it comes to the visa process, nothing is easy. However, I think by the end of it I will know more than most immigration lawyers. When I first realized there was a possibility Jim and I may be heading in the direction of marriage, I started looking into what it would take to get married. I looked at both possibilities; me moving to the US and Jim moving to Canada. Both of them were annoying and frustrating. However, the USA was the only one that offered the fiance visa option. In Canada, you have to be married first and then do all of your paperwork later. The US has this option too, but they also provide a way for people who want to get married an not be seperated for close to year afterward to do so.

This does not mean however that they make this process easy. It is a lot of redundant information asked over and over again on different forms in different ways. It is not hard. It is just knowing what needs to be sent that is the tricky part. This past week, we got word that Montreal had received our case file and they sent us out a packet of information. This packet is simply instructions to go to a website to download some forms. All of this information this time around is all about me. So it was easy to fill them out and send them back. Within a couple weeks we will get another package that gives us directions on booking a medical and an interview. I am excited about this possibility! The only downfall is I have read on visajourney that as of right now Montreal does not have any interviews available.

Back in the day, Montreal would assign you an interview date. However, as of a couple years ago, they stopped doing that. Now, you are the one that has to go to a certain website and try to book your date. The problem is Montreal only releases dates ever so often. Once all of those are taken, they wait awhile before opening up another block of interviews. Also, the annoying thing with this way of doing things is that you need to be near your computer all the time and checking for interviews. It is very possible a  limited block could open up and people that have been waiting months could miss out and people that just tried for the first time could get those slots. I am guessing that since I have read people have been waiting a couple weeks already for interviews, that they should be opening some more up soon. Here is hoping we get one ! I looked at this time last year and they were booking into July for the interviews. This would actually work out well for us, since it will be easier to travel and easier for me to take some time off.

I am glad that this part of the process is nearing an end. After the wedding there many more forms to be filled out. I just can't wait until I can just stop worrying about visa stuff anymore! It will all be a lot less complicated!!!
